California Residents

  • Your privacy matters. This practice is committed to protecting the confidentiality of your health information. As a licensed marriage and family therapy practice serving clients in California and Texas, I maintain the confidentiality of your information in accordance with the privacy and confidentiality laws of the state in which you receive services. This includes, for California clients, the California Confidentiality of Medical Information Act and the psychotherapist–patient privilege under the California Evidence Code; and, for Texas clients, the Texas Medical Records Privacy Act (Texas Health & Safety Code Chapter 181) and the Texas Mental Health Records Act (Texas Health & Safety Code Chapter 611). I do not use, sell, or share your information for advertising or marketing.

    Notice Concerning Electronic Disclosure of Your Information

    Your protected health information may be created, received, stored, or transmitted electronically, including through an electronic health record system. Consistent with Texas Health & Safety Code § 181.154, your protected health information will not be disclosed electronically to any third party except for purposes of your treatment, payment for services, or my health care operations, or as otherwise authorized by you in writing or required by law.

    Limits of Confidentiality

    The law permits or requires the disclosure of confidential information without your authorization in certain limited circumstances. These include:

    • Suspected abuse or neglect of a child, an elder, or a dependent or disabled adult;

    • Situations involving a serious or imminent risk of harm to you or to another person;

    • A valid court order, or other disclosures specifically required or authorized by law.

    These limits, and the specific statutes that apply in your state, are described in full in my complete Notice of Privacy Practices, which is provided to you at the start of services and is available to you on request.

    Your Records

    You have the right to access your treatment records and to request that inaccurate information be corrected, subject to the special protections that apply to mental health records under the law of your state. Requests should be made to me in writing.
